Testing New Satellite Telemetry at Casey Station, East Antarctica
01/03/2022
A new satellite telemetry solution for transmitting ApRES data is being tested at the Australian Antarctic Division’s Casey Station this winter. AAPP’s James Newlands has designed an upgraded power and telemetry package to allow increased data transmission from the equipment. The set up also includes solar panels and increased battery capacity to increase longevity of the GNSS over the dark winter months. The system is currently returning data, and the design will be finalised before deployment of ApRES/GPS towers on East Antarctic ice shelves in the 2022/23 field season.
